SPRING IS ALMOST HERE!
TIME TO GO VISION BOARDING!
by Christine Whelan_McCoy
Spring is almost here! Do you feel it? Do you smell it? Do you feel the changes within you? Beyond the concrete senses of smell and sight of the oncoming spring, this time of year naturally has another effect on us all, as human beings.
March 20, 2010 is the Vernal or Spring Equinox. For us, it’s a time of re-awakening of the heart as the earth re-awakens. March is a month of change and action. It’s a time to decide what we want to create during the rest of the year. But first and foremost, it’s a time to focus on loving yourself, to be kind to yourself and to pay attention to your world around you; including the interaction with all people that cross your path – all people have something for you. Through this love for yourself, realize that you have the power to create your world filled with what you want to be, what you want to do, and what you want to have.
Focusing on yourself can result in a deep contentment. We were created to accept a journey of achievement and growth. We can’t accomplish even a small part of this journey without knowing what we need in different areas of our lives. However, a stronger force often overrides this desire of discovery. It’s a belief system that can state that all others’ needs come first.
Giving yourself the opportunity, and the permission, to take a side step from your daily living to think, feel and act creatively is a basic need for all of us. However, it’s that same belief system that can include something like, doing something creative is irresponsible, unproductive, a waste of time, unimportant or immature. And so, we deny ourselves.
We all, as human beings, require some level of human contact. Positive interaction can create an essential exchange of energy that can influence amazing discoveries, solve complex problems, lift the most miserable of moods and even help reduce pain and discomfort.
And finally, trying something new. This idea can excite some, and it can cause considerable anxiety in some. I would suggest baby steps for those who don’t like change. For those who are open to change, even a little, trying something new can exhilarate like nothing else. It’s prime food for the soul. The experience of learning something new can meet many of your needs and thus, result in an inner sense of peaceful contentment - a natural high.
Now, the real trick is to find something that covers all of the above intentions; a multi-tasking of self-care, if you will. Let me introduce to you – the Vision Board. A Vision Board has been around for many, many years. It’s a visualization tool that activates the Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction states that we attract in our lives anything that we give attention to, whether it be positive or negative. By creating and using a vision board, you can focus on what you want to have, be or do in your life. Is this hard to believe? Of course, it is. But most of us don’t understand how electricity works and we use it regularly. We trust that electricity will cause our rooms to light up at a flick of a switch. Also, we believe that a box will show us moving pictures of anything we want to see simply by pushing buttons on a hand remote aimed at the box. Can we explain how a television works? Not many of us can.
So then, imagine this. You decide to spend an evening focused on just you and your needs. You are provided with an opportunity to explore and discover just what some of your needs are, as well as what you want to have, be or do in your life. You get the chance to sit in a relaxed, informal environment, meeting new and positive people. You take a deep breath and begin your creative journey of discovery. You create your own vision board. For most, this would also be something new.
Our choices make all the difference in the world. “Life is 10% what happens to you – 90% what you do with it.” We all can make the choice of rising above that false belief system that says “my needs are not as important as others” and “being creative is unproductive and immature”. Give yourself permission to grab hold of some me time.
