A COCKTAIL OF PROTECTION – PART 4:
A DOSE OF WHITE: Using Meditation to Protect Yourself

Well, we are officially into autumn. Did you say goodbye to summer in some personal way? Wrap up the cycle? I like to do little things in my life to signify the change of season: summer clothes away and sweaters out, change in meals made, change in types of music listened to. I think its how I have learned to fully experience, embrace and accept the present, to celebrate what I associate to the particular time. Autumn is my favourite season. It has an energy all its own.
Now is the time of year when the majority of us begin to spend more time indoors. Do you have a special space for yourself within the walls of your home? I can’t describe what this space looks like because everyone’s space is different. All I can share is that it’s a space where you feel safe, balanced, a sense of privacy, comfortable, and once you leave it you feel energized. You can add candles, incense, music and visually pleasing items. A comfortable place to sit is a must. This space is special because you can, in many different ways, re-energize you mind, body and spirit. It’s about being true to yourself and getting your needs met.
It is while you are enjoying time in this space that you can fill up on a dose of white light. Most people I talk with, most reading I’ve discovered in my research, share that the best meditation to use to help protect one’s self from negative energy coming from the living and spirit worlds is the white light meditation. Within this idea of using a white light – which is a powerful energy source from the universe – there is a multitude of variations one can use this white light. I’ve also come to realize that we all have knowledge and preferences deep within us that we can access. First, we are triggered by information in the outside world. We then have the choice to pull up and out our own version of this information. We’ve known it all, all along! Specifically here, I could easily write to you all about using the white light for an abundance of reasons, including protection, but you will need to find your own way to using it. Reading this is only a part of your research.
Don’t worry – you know. Your intuition will tell you.
Here are a few suggestions you can draw from. If you pay attention to your inner reaction while reading these suggestions, you will have your answer as to which ones, if any, are meant for you.
Basic Meditation
Allow yourself some time in that special space in your house that you’ve created. Get comfortable and close your eyes. Focus on your breathing. Pay attention to how the air travels inside you when you inhale through your nose and how it leaves you during the exhale out of your mouth. Slow down the activity in the mind. Yes, this is a tough one. When the thoughts and images pick up again, gently but firmly instruct it to again, slow down. Stop. Now, be aware of each part of your body in your own personal way. I sometimes clench and release each muscle area, one at a time, from neck to foot. All while breathing – fully in, fully out.
White Light
It is said that the white light is a combination of all the colours of our chakras. It is also said that the white light is the most powerful. I’ll go with that. It’s a catch 22 to the positive here. Whether the white light is the most powerful or not, if we all believe it is, we’re making it so. However, the other side of the coin is, if you don’t believe in a white light coming from above and within each of us that has the ability to heal at a miracle level and keep away massive, nasty, black boogiemen, it’s not going to do much for you. I would like to add, as far as the connection to beliefs goes, we have to be able to believe that we all have the power to call upon and utilize this light at any time.
So, my first point is actually a question. Do you believe you have the power?
Psst…. of course you do…
Once you decided that since you are, in fact, a human being, then yes, you do have the power, continue on in your special space, all cozy and comfortable with your eyes closed. Now, visualize a beautiful, bright white beam of light travelling down from high above, and gently entering the top of your head. It feels slightly warm as it flows down, through you. Let the light push out, through your skin and create a misty layer around your body. Surround yourself with this warmth. Allow this wonderful white light to create an egg around you and know that nothing can get in. You are protected as long as your hold this circle of light around you in your mind.
Pushing it out
In times of need, such as if you are close to someone who has a negative attitude, negative body language, or your intuition is simply giving you the message there’s just something negative about them, you can visualize this white light around you and then push it outwards, creating a larger circle. Even if this person doesn’t physically keep a distance, the negative energy shouldn’t be able to penetrate your energy field so that you experience it or are influenced by it.
This also works in situations where you intuitively feel like there is a negative spirit close by. Negative spirits can cause you to feel and think negative feelings and thoughts. Pushing out this white light will keep a lower level spirit at bay. I’ve been told recently by a channeller that it propels them.
Visualizing and guided meditation
Back in your special space, while you are warm and comfy, with your calmed mind and attention focused on your breathing and your body, build an addition on your special space. Create an inner space. Your mind is amazing when it comes to this stuff. You can visualize anything you want!!!!
Now when it comes to protection, you can visualize yourself as a 10 foot warrior, for example. Imagine what that would feel like. Give yourself a warrior name. Spend some time as this character in your mind, feeling all empowered and confident. Awesome, yes?
I can’t say or type this enough – like attracts like. So whatever you visualize you are drawing to you. Be careful what you wish for.
Using a keyword
When it comes to a time of need for protection, you can call upon this warrior part of you by thinking the name. This will kick in that incredible white light and the warrior vision you’ve created, and you are your own bodyguard. You rock!
Once you figure out what technique works for you, practice it and become comfortable with it, you can come up with a keyword or phrase you can use to trigger an instant connection between you and your protection of choice.
Using a pet
Based on my own repeated, person experience and stories told by others, I believe that we are very capable of raising and influencing our energy by focusing on a willing animal, who already knows he/she can do the same with us.
Most mornings I spend a little time with my 16 year old cat, Dukey (who by the way, still thinks she about 5 years old). Before the sun rises and I’m at my desk and laptop checking out emails, Dukey jumps up and sits facing me, just next to the laptop. This is her way to telling me it’s time for our morning energy exchange. We face each other, eyes locked. And I start at the top of her head, petting her all the way down the sides of her sitting body. I focus on her energy and my own energy that is transferring to her through our eye contact and my finger tips as I pet her. She is returning with her own energy. I can feel a rise in vibration surrounding us. Dukey lets me know when it’s enough by breaking eye contact and jumping down to head in the direction of her water dish.
In the end, you will choose what feels right for you. I’m hoping that you will incorporate, in some way, the use of this precious and abundant gift from the universe -- this brilliant, all-knowing and healing white light.
In the end, it’s all about what you believe in and thus, value.
