LIGHTWORKERS’ WAY:  PART 3

with
Christine Whelan-McCoy

LIGHTWORKERS AND THE AFTERLIFE

Dedicated to, and in memory of,
my dear friend Paul:
Sept. 28, 1966 - Oct. 24, 2009

It’s been a year, my friend.  What’s the ride like on the other side?

I feel like I’m getting ahead of myself here with this month’s column.  I’m taking a side step, if you will.  However, I think it’s a very important side step and I wanted to include it at this time.  October 24th marks one year that one of my closest friends, Paul, passed away after a long, hard battle with cancer.  Over six years before that date, when he sat me down in Montebello Park one May afternoon and shared with me he was in the last stages of an incurable form of cancer, I felt he had chosen me to help him through this.  He had chosen me to help him die.  He didn’t believe in life after death, or at the very most questioned it.  But at some level, he knew I did.  None of us had any idea how hard and how long this journey was going to be, although I wouldn’t have turned down the opportunity even if I knew what I was about to commit myself to; even if I knew ahead of time what it entailed.  The learning and growing experience was unparalleled.

-------------------------

While the general public collectively holds a wide variety of beliefs about death and what happens afterwards, lightworkers can also have their own, personal set of beliefs.  There is no set rule on what to believe and what not to believe simply because none of us truly know completely for a fact what happens after we die.  What we do have to give us glimpses and impressions is our intuition.  We always have our intuition.

The lightworker’s world is mainly focused on light and energy, dictated by thoughts and feelings.  Most challenges are addressed and solutions are decided upon based on energy.  The main belief is that we are all made of energy.  Everything is made of energy.  Everything has its own level of vibration as energy.  So, if we are in fact made of energy, vibrating at a specific range, and it is known that energy has no ending but continues on, then we can trust that we have no end.  We simply discard a body that is, for one reason or another, worn out and finished.

Someone asked me once what I felt about dying, if I was afraid of dying.  My answer to them was very simple but hard for some to grasp, “I don’t believe in death.”

As a young girl, as far back as I can remember, I was always confronted with the concept of death.  I have vivid memories of having to say my bedtime prayers as many children did. “Now I lay me down to sleep.  I pray the Lord my soul to keep.  If I should die before I wake…..”  I’m sure this last line affected many children but as I lie there, night after night in asthmatic attack and fighting for each breath, wondering if I fell asleep and stopped fighting would I just stop breathing, it certainly provided lots of opportunity for me to imagine what it was like on the other side; and if there was another side.

Many lightworkers feel a strong connection to the spirit world.  They instinctively have always known life after death existed.  Its part of the bag of tools we allow ourselves to bring into this lifetime.  Many of us expand on this inner knowing.  Many choose not to.

For me, I feel I had chosen to bring this inner knowing into my conscious life in a gradual way.  It started in childhood. I had always “sensed” that I was never alone in a room.  I had always “sensed” as we drove past or went into certain houses that someone special lived in them and held very strong feelings, usually negative feelings. I had always “sensed” someone outside the window looking in, causing me to keep the curtains closed at night until I was 17 years old.

I’ve come to learn much about the afterlife in the last couple of years and trust me I could go on and on here about it.  Understanding the spirit world has become quite a lifetime focus for me.  As a lightworker, with that natural urge to pass on enlightenment, there is a list of basic but very important pieces of insight I’m passionate to share with you.

We have all been, at one point or another, “ghosts”.
As humans being, the first thing we are most likely to, and encouraged to, do is fear ghosts.
The worst thing we can do is fear them.
Your loved ones in spirit are there for you whenever you need them; you can call on them with your focused thoughts and your positive feelings for them.
People who have unfinished business upon their time of passing, often will stay earthbound until this business is completed.
Some spirits are lost; some don’t know they have passed.
If they have not crossed over yet, they are what they were in life, both in personality and belief system.
It is very possible that a loved one that has passed is now one of your spirit guides.
You have many spirit guides, all with different roles.
Spirits communicate with you all the time, in many different ways; you just need to open up and learn how they are communicating with you.  They have messages for you.
Some spirits / energies can manipulate your thoughts and most importantly your feelings, and want to, so it’s important to always know what you yourself are feeling and thinking.
Love will strengthen spirits of the light.
Fear will strengthen the darker, less evolved energies.  Positive emotions will weaken them.
Fear is really their only weapon; your fear.
How we can all help those on the other side find peace is find forgiveness – for them and for ourselves.
Knowledge reduces fear greatly.
There are just as many options, opportunities and rules on the other side than there are on earth.

Before Paul passed away, he and I talked about when it was his time to pass over, if he would come back and make communication with me and help me in the next part of my journey as I knew it was going to be quite challenging.  In this last year, there have been several indications that he comes and goes with purpose and strength, leaving behind little signs for me to take notice of.  He’s quite creative in his communicating, from using wildlife and my pet cat to leaving behind familiar smells.  He makes me giggle as he would giggle is life.  His mother and I connect periodically and share our experiences of assistance we regularly have with her son in spirit.  She and I are also helping each other in case there is unfinished business that is holding all three of us back.

How does this sound to you?  Bizarre?  Crazy?  Does it resonate as true?  Let your intuition tell you what to believe.  This is how I travel.

If you could take something so vast and complex as the spirit world (and I didn’t even touch on the fact that there are levels…..yep, levels) and sum it up with one common element, it would be emotions.  Secondarily, and close behind, would be thoughts.  So much of our world and the other side are run by our emotions, both individually and collectively.  We have a continuum of emotions that guide us down our path and create our own reality, and most of us our doing it blindly!  This too, includes our relationship with the other side.  We work in partnership.

Now imagine the possibilities…..

Love and Light, my friends.

Animal Totems

with Janet Leonard

As spiritual people we learn to listen to the messages of the Universe. I, for example, always know that if I hear something from 3 different people at different times then the Universe is trying to tell me something and I had better listen. What about the other creatures in the Universe? Do they have messages for us also? I sat with Janet Leonard, owner of Crystal Earth, to find out more about Animal Totems and why we need to watch, look and listen.

What are Animal Totems?

Animal totems are guides. They are often given to us before birth or in our dreams and our personal animal totems are the animals that we are drawn to. I have always been drawn to hawks. I just feel fascinated by both their strength and grace. Janet stated that the hawk symbolizes a message from the divine. If you see a hawk, especially more than once, you are receiving a message directly from God, the divine power and you need to stay alert to determine what that message might be.

Janet had been visited by a hawk 3 times over a period of 2 days. She knew that something big was coming and she needed to stay aware of the messages around her. While at work that week, after the hawk encounters, she observed a woman who had locked her keys in her car. The woman continually looked in her car window and tried to open the locked doors again and again. Janet felt compassion for this poor woman who continued to use the same method again and again without success. It was actually a couple of days later while speaking with a friend that Janet realized the message. She had been the doing same thing again and again for 4 years expecting a different result. Once she came to this realization she was able to change that and move forward. She thanked the Universe for the message and the lesson.

If there is an animal that you have always been attracted to then that animal is probably your totem. Animals totems and their meanings originate from native cultures. Janet explained that different native cultures do have different beliefs as to what various animals mean. She gave the example of when she had been given the gift of a raven feather from a native friend and was informed through another native friend that it is not something that she should keep. Janet understands that the intention behind the gift is also significant and the gift was given with love and friendship.

How can we understand the messages?

When interpreting the messages of the animals Janet often refers to the Animals Speak book by Ted Andrews and the Medicine cards, the Discovery of Power through the Ways of Animals by Jamie Sams and David Carson, which includes the cards and a book to interpret their meanings and messages. You do have to learn more about their interpretations to be able to use the messages in your daily life. Janet stated that she is always learning more about their use in her life and she also has a native friend who is able to provide her with information from his own knowledge and training.

She also suggests that we try to remember what it was we were thinking about when we saw that creature which also includes insects, “I was thinking I am not being productive today and I decide to wander outside to sip my tea. I was approached not by one but 2 bees every time I went to step outside.” She referred to the Animals Speak book which told her “You are not using your productivity correctly you should be putting that energy into creativity.” Bees, being the very productive insects that they are, were confirming her very thoughts to her. People may say that the message is not telling them anything that they didn’t already know. Very often the message is exactly that a confirmation telling you that you are not getting this here is the message again!

The messages are also here to assist you on your life path. As Janet put it “Life can be very confusing and we can put ourselves in pretty difficult situations were we don’t know what to do.” Using the messages from the creatures around us can help us to make those decisions. While we were talking I drew a card from the Medicine cards the Merkat. It stated to trust in like minded friends. “There are people in your life that will offer their support to you, your only job is to receive it and indeed sometimes even ask for it. Those whom you feel closest to and trust the most are the individuals you can rely on to be there for you especially when you really need it. People who are dealing with dire illness and have support of friends and family usually fair the best.  Although you certainly don’t need to experience an extreme situation to take advantage of the love and care that others have to offer.” This was an excellent message for me as I tend to not rely on others I will usually look at how I can resolve issues myself and not bother others with my issues. I have been wanting to reach out and expand in terms of the website but I have been hesitant due to lack of time. This message reminds me that I am not alone and that I only need to ask for that assistance and it will be there. I tried another card and it was the ant. Ant people are active community minded folks who see the greater future needs of their town. Ant people are planners like squirrel, content to see their dreams being built a little at a time.

When you are currently experiencing a lot of fear in your life it can be difficult for you to find or hear the messages that are being sent to you. You can use the medicine cards like oracle cards to find those messages. You need to be aware of all of the messages around you especially if you see an animal more than once. Janet gave the example where one morning, before she had decided to move her store she saw 2 herons and she couldn’t wait to look up their meaning. Herons represent standing on your own. It was confirmation that she is ready to move into a new space. Again as she was shuffling the medicine cards while walking around the store she pulled the heron.

Animal Totems are a gift for us from the Universe by following their messages you can enrich your life. If you are unable to make decisions why not listen to them they just might have the exact message that you need right now. Animal Speaks by Ted Andrews, Medicine Cards, The Discovery of Power Through the Ways of Animals by Jamie Sams and David Carson and Messages from your Animal Spirit Guides by Steven Farmer are all available for purchase at Crystal Earth in their new location at 4099 Portage Rd, Niagara Falls.

Thanks Janet for sharing your stories and your wisdom to help us better understand another gift from the Universe.

What is a Witch?

Almost everyday someone asks me “Are you a Witch?”  I’ve honestly never thought of myself as a Witch.  A magickal person, yes.  A spiritual person, yes.  Someone who turns to herbs or crystals instead of a prescription, yes. But a Witch?

And then one day a good friend of mine said “Jewelee you are the biggest Witch I know you can manifest anything!”  This got me to really think about what being a Witch means.  I was reading a book and I’d like to share their definition of Witch with you.  “The essence of Witchcraft…. is transformation.  The idea is to take the “you” currently present and accounted for and change your essence into something better, greater, stronger and incredibly dynamic.

Being a Witch means to want to work everyday to be a better person.  When you change yourself, then the world around you cannot help but change.  To be a Witch you must be brave enough to face everything inside of you, and have the courage to change the things you do not like.  Being a Witch has nothing to do with spells, rituals, and unusual clothing—they are the fun stuff!  To be a Witch is to desire personal transformation.”  Based on this definition I’d have to say that I really am a Witch!

Peace, Jewelee
